- Liberia, officially republic of Liberia, country of Africa of the West, opened on the Atlantic Ocean, limited to the northwest by Sierra Leone, in the North by Guinea and in the East by Côte d'Ivoire. This country of 111 369 km2 was, in 1847, the first State independent from Africa, then colonized by European powers. Established by slaves freed and repatriated from the American continent, it is steered until 1980 with Americano-Liberian. The end of the political dominion of these descendants of slaves marks the beginning of a conflict which sets various ethnic groups, in fight opened for power since 1989. The capital, Monrovia, and most of the economic infrastructures were destroyed by civil war.
