- Namibia, officially republic of Namibia, country of southern Africa, limited to the North by Angola and Zambia, in the East by Botswana, to the southeast by South Africa and on the West by 1 500 km of desert coasts in border of the Atlantic Ocean. Namibia is a vast tray, covering a surface of 825 418 km2, rich in precious ores. Its capital, Windhoek, is situated in the centre of the country, in the height of 1 724 m. Ancient African Southwest, become Namibia in 1968, the country, colonized by Germany then by South Africa, reached the independence only in 1990.
