- Republic of Uganda, country of East Africa, enclosed between Sudan, in the North, Kenya, in the East, Tanzania and Rwanda, in the South, and the democratic Republic of Congo, on the West. Uganda, of which the capital is Kampala, covers a surface of 241 038 km2. It is member of the Commonwealth. Prosperous country during the entry in the independence, in 1962 , saved at first by ethnic and political tensions, Uganda knew, from 1967 , of murderesses conflicts then a long dictatorship.
