- Chad, officially republic of the Chad, country of central Africa, limited to the North by Libya, in the East by Sudan, to the South by the Central African Republic and on the West by Cameroon, Nigeria and Niger - three States with which it shares the waters of the lake Chad. Inheritance of rivalries among European colonizers in Africa, the plan of the borders of this vast territory (1 284 000 km2) fed a long dispute between the Chad and Libya, concerning Aozou's band (114 000 km2) which the international Court of Hague attributed definitively in the Chad in February, 1994. Link enters white African moslem and Black Africa, connected until 1960 with French Central Afric republic, the country knew, since its independence, a succession of internal conflicts provoking French military interventions. Opposition between the Moslem North and the animistic and Christian South always threatens national unity. The capital, N'Djamena, is in the confluence of rivers Chari and Logone.
