- Republic of Zambia, country of subtropical Africa, enclosed between the democratic Republic of Congo, in the northwest,Tanzania, in the northeast, Malawi, in the East, Mozambique, in the southwest, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Caprivi's band belonging in Namibia, in the South, and Angola, on the West. The country covers a surface of 752 614 km2 and its capital is Lusaka. Rhodesia-of-North's former British colony, the country took the name of Zambia by reaching the independence on October 24, 1964. In spite of important mining resources, Zambia became one of the poorest countries of the world.
