- Country enclosed by central Africa, limited to the North by the Chad, in the East by Sudan, to the South by the democratic Republic of Cong and the republic of Congo, and on the West by Cameroon. The Central African Republic, the little populated country, of a surface of 622 984 km2, is distant from 1 815 km from the Atlantic Ocean, which one reaches by waterway since Bangui, the capital, up to Brazzaville (Congo) then Point - black, by the railway Congo-Océan. The central position on the African continent, if it constitutes a handicap from economic point of view, confers on the country a strategic interest, which explains the long military presence of France in this ancient colony of Oubangui-Chari, become independent in 1960.
