- State of the Atlantic Ocean the North situated in the North of the Big Antilles. Andros, Eleuthera, Grand Bahama, Great Abaco, Great Inagua, Harbour, Length, Mayaguana and San Salvador are the other important islands. The Bahama Islands counted about 244 000 inhabitants in 1993 for a surface of 13 935 km2. Besides Nassau, only the other big city is Freeport, on the island of Grand Bahama.
