- Barbados (in English Barbados) is an island nation located at the border of the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.
The name of Barbados comes from the Portuguese explorer Pedro A. Campos which named the island in 1536 OS Barbados ("the Bearded one"). It thus named it by seeing the long air roots of some ficus which made him think of "barbs".
