- Republic of Chile (in Spanish, Chile's República), country situated in the southwest of South America, lined in the North by Peru, in the East by Bolivia and Argentina, and in the South and on the West by the Pacific Ocean. Several archipelagoes (that of Chonos, the island Wellington and the Occidental sector of Tierra del Fuego) follow the Chilean Southern coast since the island Chiloé until the Cape Horn. The other islands belonging in Chile are islands Juan Fernández, island of Easter and the island Salted and Gómez; all are situated in the south Pacific. Chile also claims a territory of Antarctica. The total surface of the country is of 756 945 km2!; the capital and the first city is Santiago.
