- Canada, country of North America, federal State, member of the Commonwealth, limited to the North by the Icy ocean Arctic, in the northeast by the sea of Baffin and the strait of Davis who separate it from Greenland, in the East by the Atlantic Ocean, in the South by the United States and on the West by the Pacific Ocean and Alaska. Canada is the second country in the world by its surface (9 959 400 km2), behind Russia. It extends over 6 500 km of is in the West, of the 52-nd in the 141-th degree of longitude, and on 5 000 km of the North in the South, the 84-th degree of latitude (cap Columbia, Ellesmere's earth(ground)) in the 42-nd ( Ontario). It includes numerous islands, notably the archipelago Canadian Arctic, in the Icy ocean Arctic. The biggest of these islands, which cover in quite 1 424 500 km2 are, in order decreasing, Baffin's earth, the earth Victoria, Ellesmere's earth, Banks's earth, island Devon, the island Axel-Heiberg and the island Melville. The federal capital is Ottawa.
