- Montserrat (island), dependency of the United Kingdom, one of the Lesser Antilles Lesser Antilles islands, in the Caribbean Sea, southwest of Antigua and northwest of Guadeloupe. The island, with an area of 102 km2, is mountainous, with the highest peak being Mount Chance (about 915 m above sea level). Plymouth (population estimated at 3,500 inhabitants in 1985), the only city on the island, is the capital of Montserrat.
