- Emirats Arabic unite, union of seven émirats, situated on the oriental ribof the Arabique peninsula, which includes Abu Dhabi, Dubaï, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al-Qaïwain, Fujaïrah and Short al-Khaïmah. The territory of Émirats is bounded in the North by Qatar and bay Arabo-Persique, in the East by the bay of Oman and the State of the same name, in the South and on the West by Saudi Arabia. It extends on one hand over 1 450 km of coasts in the bay Arabo-Persique (with the exception of Fujaïrah), and on the other hand on 80 km of coasts in the bay of Oman. The surface of close Arabic Émirats is of 83 657 km2 and divides up unevenly according to States: Abu Dhabi, with 67 600 km2, is five times as vast that the six other gathered émirats. Dubaï, the second émirat in size, counts only 3 840 km2, whereas the smallest, Ajman, extends only over 250 km2. Abu Dhabi, the émirat most importing as by the area as by the financial resources, is the seat of the union, constituted in 1971 by six émirats, the " States of the Armistice " ( Trucial States), to which came to add, in 1972 , that of Short al-Kaïmah. The city of Abu Dhabi, capital of the country, shelters the federal government and operates foreign policy, defence and education of the seven émirats. Close Arabic Émirats constitutes one of the zones the richest in the world, possessing the highest by living income. Their economy rests quite complete on the exploitation of hydrocarbons.
