- Republic of the Yemen, country situated in the southwest point of Arabia, possessing maritime facades on the bay of Aden and on the Red Sea. Countries inhabitants of the border zone of the Yemen are Saudi Arabia in the North and the sultanate of Oman in the East. Yemen, which covers a total surface of 536 869 km2, includes islands Socotra, in the bay of Aden, Kamaran, in the Red Sea, and Perim in the strait of Bab el Mandeb. The capital of the country is Sanaa. In the antique world, Yemen was known under the name of ' "! Happy Arabia! ". Yemen means in Arabic "! Right-hand side! ": The country is indeed situated to the right of Mecca, for the faithful Moslems who turn to the holy City when they pray. Current Yemen arose in 1990 from the meeting of the democratic and popular Republic of the Yemen ( Yémen-du-Sud) and the Arab Republic of Yemen .
