- Federal Republic of Germany (in German, Bundesrepublik Deutschland), country of central Europe, opened to the North on the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. Germany possesses common borders with Denmark in the North, with Poland and Czech Republic in the East, with Austria and Switzerland in the South, with France, Belgium, Luxemburg and Netherlands, on the West. After Second World war, Germany was occupied by the Allies and divided into two States politically and economically set: Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany) and the German Democratic Republic (East Germany). Reunited on October 3, 1990, Germany extends today over a surface of 356 959 km2. The political capital is Berlin.
