- Georgia (Asia), officially republic of Georgia, country of the West of Asia, in the Occidental part of Transcaucasia, lined on the West by the Black Sea, in the North by Russia, in the southeast by Aserbaidschan and Armenia, and in the South by Turkey. The ancient soviet socialist republic of Georgia of the USSR, Georgia is independent since 1991. It includes on the territory two autonomous republics, Abkhazia (8 600 km2) and Adzharia (3 400 km2), and an autonomous region, Ossétie-du-Sud (3 900 km2). The total surface of the country is of 69 700 km2. The capital is Tbilisi.
