- Officially republic of Lithuania (in Lithuanian, Lietuvos Respublika), State of the northeast of Europe, belonging, quite as Latvia and Estonia, in the group of the Baltic States. Lithuania is limited to the North by Latvia, in the East and to the South by Byelorussia, to the southeast by Poland and by Kaliningrad's enclave belonging in Russia, and on the West by the Baltic Sea. The ancient republic of the USSR, Lithuania became again independent in 1991. it covers a surface about 65 200 km2. The capital, Vilnius, is most big city of the country.
